Tech specs
Sample rates, bit depth, channels, latency, and logging.
| Spec | Value |
|---|---|
| Minimum macOS | 14.0 (Sonoma) |
| Mac processor | Apple Silicon (M1 and later), fully supported and where the app is tested; Intel Macs that run macOS 14 (about 2018 on) run the same universal binary |
| Minimum iPadOS | 17.0 — one purchase covers Mac and iPad |
| Supported sample rates | 44100, 48000, 88200, 96000 Hz (device-dependent; the engine also recognizes 176400/192000 where a device offers them) |
| Bit depth | 32-bit float (internal processing) |
| Channels | Mono input (a single selected channel — guitar is mono), stereo output |
| Latency | Depends on your audio interface and its buffer size; NØISE does not fix a buffer size on macOS, it reads the device's own live setting |
| Framework | AVAudioEngine on top of Core Audio |
| Debug log | No log file exists. Logging is exclusively via Apple's OSLog; the Debug Panel reads it back and lets you copy or save it as a text report. Any older documentation mentioning /tmp/noise_debug.log is out of date. |
Constraint worth knowing
The FX chain only runs when input and output work at the same sample rate. One device for both guarantees that, at the lowest latency; two devices at the same rate work too. When the rates differ, the dry guitar and the band keep playing and FX stays out until you fix it — see Audio setup and Sample-rate mismatch. On iPad this does not arise: one audio session, one rate.
